The big 6

Learning about the big 6 has taken a little time get my head around and I feel I still need further investigation. As education is encouraging the use of ICTs in the classroom to gain a better engagement from students I feel that working with the big 6 frame work can help guide teachers with implementing ICT's.
Wiki
When using a Wiki compared to a blog you are able to alter the information that is on that page. I feel that a Wiki would be good to use for a group assignment. Using the first 3 steps in the big 6 would apply to the use of a Wiki. The Wiki can provide a work space for the group to share ideas on assignment and also a form of communication between the teacher and students. Once students have formulated their ideas they can add to the Wiki with different information they have found through hyperlinks and comment on each others research.
Reflecting personally on how I would use a Wiki in my learning activities would apply to my students using this tool with research assignments in science. In years 11 and 12 science students are to do create an EEI research experiment that usually extends over 2 to 3 terms. Over that period students are to keep a research journal recording information collected on experiment, ideas for design. data results and any thing relating to that experiment. I believe a Wiki could replace journals and allow better research to occur.
The use of a website could apply to students who miss days at school and provide a place they can go to catch up on work. Also a good way to communicate to the parents of students about the subject area and what the students are currently working on at school.

The fantastic bubbl.us

Bubbl.us is a fantastic tool for designing a concept map. I did not find it difficult to use as I discovered new little tricks the more I developed my map. I find students would enjoy designing their own concept using this type of tool as they are able to put their own flare into it and put in as much or as little information as needed. Using a concept map to display the information that I had covered for week one become easier to process and connect when presented in this form. In the future I hope this program could be integrated into Microsoft work and become an everyday day tool.

Learning styles
From taking the learning styles test it has indicated that I have preferred learning styles of logical, solitary, physical and social. I have found it interesting that I my learning styles include both social and solitary which to me seem to be contradict each other. In a class of 25 students different learning styles need to be considered. I would encourage to use all seven different learning styles to engage the learners who enjoy that particular style and also provide an opportunity for students to experience new learning styles.
In my preferred teaching of high school science I would encourage students to use computers to demonstrate scientific process such as the journey of the digestive system: what organs are involved, processes involved and problems that can occur. The main purpose would be for the students to interact with the topic.
